About the Swedish citizenship test

Since 6 June 2026, it is a requirement for Swedish citizenship to be able to show knowledge of the Swedish language and of Swedish society. The first test — in civics — was written on Saturday 15 August 2026. Here is an honest, plain-language guide to what it is, how it works, what it costs and what applies right now.

What it is
The citizenship test is a knowledge-of-society test called “Sverige i fokus” (Sweden in focus). It is developed by UHR — the Swedish Council for Higher Education (Universitets- och högskolerådet). Since 6 June 2026 it is a requirement for Swedish citizenship.
Please note: Citizen Sverige is an independent study app. We are not UHR, Migrationsverket or any government authority, and we do not run the official test. We simply help you prepare for it.
The format

This is the question most people search for — and almost no one answers clearly. So here it is:
The pass mark has not been set yet. UHR has not published the threshold; it is delegated to UHR's own regulations. Until it is confirmed, no one can tell you the exact score you need.
Because of this, our app uses a benchmark so you can always see roughly where you stand as you practise — and keep improving until test day.
UHR is analysing the results during the autumn, and the result is published in October 2026.
The cost
The fee to take part in the test is 2,000 kronor to UHR under regulation 2026:451. Under the regulation’s transitional provisions, the fee is applied for the first time for tests held in 2027. The fee does not apply to a person who is stateless and who has been granted a refugee declaration or travel document by a Swedish authority.

Yes, you can retake the test, but each attempt has UHR's fee. That is why it pays to practise thoroughly first.
